AISD Back to School Program

The AISD Back To School Kickoff at AT&T Stadium is intended to help lower-income families prepare for the new school year by receiving backpacks with school supplies, free medical and dental checkup, and free haircuts inside the stadium lobby.  A key feature of the Kickoff is a Resource Fair, where local organizations like Kiwanis can tell parents and students about beneficial activities and programs that are available to them.  For Kiwanis, this includes Key Clubs at every high school in the city, and our highly successful “Bringing Up Grades” (BUGS) program.  Kiwanis has taken part in the Kickoff every year since its inception five years ago.  For us, the Kickoff is an extension of our long-standing history of active and meaningful support for the School District and its students, parents and teachers.  In all, we actively support about 1,500 children and young people through our programs every year.  This makes us a valuable addition to the Back To School Kickoff event.

Our participation this year was greatly enhanced by the presence of Key Club members from both Arlington High School and Lamar High School, all of whom will receive credit for service hours for being with us. This is our fifth straight year working the program.
